"The Early Years" is a compilation containing compositions from the period 1968-1972. Twenty-four pieces in total, a good collection therefore. The graphics of the "Conneisseur" edition are curious: the photo of the group, by a certain "Bigkick Creations", corresponds to the cover design of "A stack of Steeleye Span". Inside, a presentation by Simon Evans illustrates the first period of the band's history. The Action CD (The best of & the rest) instead includes only the first 14 compositions.

Curiosa è la grafica dell'edizione "Conneisseur": la foto del gruppo, opera di una certa "Bigkick Creations", corrisponde al disegno di copertina di "A stack of Steeleye Span". All'interno una presentazione di Simon Evans illustra il primo periodo della storia della band. Il cd della Action (The best of & the rest) comprende invece solo le prime 14 composizioni.
