With "Tempted and Tried" Steeleye Span are still looking for new sounds, demonstrating an uncommon creative energy. The anniversary is the twentieth anniversary of the group's foundation. Rick Kemp leaves the group, making room for multi-instrumentalist Tim Harries. The ballad "The cruel mother" and the arrangements in general are very beautiful, without forgetting the beautiful voice of Maddy Prior in "Betsy Bell". The CD in the 2001 BGO edition features a short history of the band written by John Tobler.

Con "Tempted and Tried" gli Steeleye Span cercano ancora nuove sonorità, dimostrando una energia creativa non comune. La ricorrenza è il ventennale della fondazione del gruppo. Esce dal gruppo Rick Kemp che lascia spazio al polistrumentista Tim Harries. Molto bella è la ballata "The cruel mother" e gli arrangiamenti in generale, senza dimenticare la bellissima voce di Maddy Prior in "Betsy Bell".
