Peter Bellamy, Mainly Norfolk, Songs & Ballads, LP UK XTRA 1968 - XTRA 1060

Sydney Carter’s review, June 1968: One example of the re-emergence of folk song in the Folk Revival is Mainly Norfolk, on which Peter Bellamy sings songs from the repertoire of such staunchly traditional singers as Harry Cox and Sam Larner, in much the same way as they must themselves have sung half a century ago. Like a true folk singer (as distinct from a folk scholar) he flings in a song like The German Musicianer for sheer fun. This is the kind of un-folk song the old folk-singers liked to sing before collectors robbed them of their innocence (not that it stopped them, even then). A good record.
