The Albion Band, Give Me A
Saddle, I'll Trade You A Car, LP UK Topic Records
1989 (Topic TSCD 454)
This
is an album that opens explosively: "Ash On An Old Man's Sleeve" is an
electric, nervous track that tells the story of the anti-hero Jimmy
Porter in reference to a story by Elliot. Also beautiful is the
following "Geoff Collings", a version by Hutchings of the ancient
ballad "Child Calvin". Among the interesting collaborations, it is
worth noting the presence of Swan Arcade and the hurdy gurdy of Cliff
Stapleton (later Blowzabella together with John Sheperd). The cover
photograph is by Jonathan Swain.
