Sydney Bertram Carter was an English poet, songwriter, and folk musician who was born in Camden Town, London. During the making of Lovely in the Dances seven of the songs were recorded for the first time, while others had never been recorded in quite the same way. “I start with words, rhythm and a melody,” says Sydney Carter. “Harmonies I tend to leave to other people. The result is often a disaster. But this time I was delighted.”
