Dopo la partenza Richard Thompson, il gruppo ritrova stabilità con l'arrivo del chitarrista Jerry Donahue e pubblica questo disco dagli accenti decisamente più rockeggianti. Non mancano tuttavia alcune canzoni intense come "Polly on the shore", scritta da Dave Pegg e cantata in modo sublime da Trevor Lucas. L'album possiede una confezione assai spartana, che cambia colore in relazione al luogo di pubblicazione (rossa quella americana, marrone quella inglese.
