Paul James, The Drowned Lover and other Dark Tales CD 2016 Mummerfy-01 A new album by Paul James was expected since a
long time. It’s a great album, the result of a meticulous research. Paul's
compositions are very appreciable beginning with "Falco e Colomba". It is surprising to hear the saxophone in "Wakeful" or the
bagpipe in "The Drowned Lover" and Paul's voice with effects in "The
Topman and the afterguard" and in "The Big Corn". Paul says: "I used
a valve microphone preamplifier which produces a little "saturation"
in the harmonics". Several artists play and
arrange the tracks with Paul James in the studio including the electric
guitarist Victor Nichols and the Italian percussionist Gigi Biolcati. The cover
is a drawing by Robin and by Bryony Spiers
Finalmente
un disco firmato Paul James, un avvenimento atteso da molto tempo. E si tratta
di un album straordinario, risultato di una ricerca attenta. Le composizioni di
Paul in particolare sono molto apprezzabili a cominciare da "Falco e
Colomba" ma in generale è sorprendente ascoltare il sax in
"Wakeful" o la bagpipe in "The Drowned Lover" e la voce
patinata di Paul in "The Topman and the Afterguard" e in "The
Big Corn". Dice Paul: “ho usato un microfono valvolare
preamplificato che produce una piccola saturazione sugli armoni”. Insieme a
Paul James a suonare in studio e a curare gli arrangiamenti vi sono vari
artisti tra i quali il chitarrista elettrico Victor Nichols e il percussionista
Gigi Biolcati. In copertina un disegno di Robin e Bryony Spears.
